BLUEGRASS RHYTHM GUITAR Workshop
3:30-5:30pm
Bluegrass guitarists have developed some of the most potent and interesting rhythm moves ever heardbut they are seldom taught in an organized way. This workshop takes a hands-on, detailed and entertaining look at them. Learn the cool bass runs and strums and how to apply them. If you strum folk, bluegrass or country music
on an acoustic guitar this workshop is for you.
CONCERT at 7:30pm.
Sunday October 26 - at the Folk School
MANDO WORKSHOP DAY
Noon-2:00pm: RHYTHM MANDOLIN
Rhythm is a vital yet seldom focused-on aspect of mandolin playing. In this workshop we explore five different rhythm styles, from folk
to bluegrass, Celtic to country swing, and reggae. You'll come away with some new strums and chords forms that you can immediately apply to your music-making.
3:00-5:00pm: 'MAKING YOUR MANDO SING'
One of the hurdles facing mandolinists on the road from memorizing solos to making music is learning to incorporate rhythm moves into their leads. Using the classic song New River Train, this workshop will give you a tool-kit of strums and double-stops that can be used to transform a simple vocal melody into a full-sounding mandolin solo.
Monday October 27 - at Fazio's
LEAD FLATPICKING: What The Tab Won't Tell You
6:30-8:45pm
You’ve got the books and tabs, play some fiddle tunes, are starting to feel at home playing leadsnow what?
In this workshop we zero-in on the subtleties: why and how certain notes should be accented; using ‘timing strums’ to make for colorful pauses; and making a rhythm statement with your lead playing. (We will also touch on some rhythm-playing basics.)
