DC-Area Mandolin Workshop
------with Orrin Star

---Cheverly,MD ~ Noon-2:00pm
----plus open jam* after until 5pm

MIDNIGHT ON THE WATER: A Classic Texas Waltz
With its haunting modal melody and interesting chord
progression (which starts with a descending bass line)
Midnight on the Water is a sublime mandolin tune.
Fiddlers play it in a modal 'cross tuning' with plenty of
double-stops—but those special added notes are missing from most mandolin tab versions. Come hang with your
fellow mandolinistas and learn how it's really meant to
be played.

(Though there is some building upon topics previously covered, these workshops are discrete entities and can be taken in any amount or sequence you see fit. Each workshop will have a written hand-out with some tab/chord diagrams to augment the live teaching.)

DIRECTIONS:
Take 295 (Balt/Wash Expressway) to the Cheverly/Rt 202
exit. Head east on 202/Landover Rd (ie a Left turn if your coming from the north, and a Right if you've come from the south) and take your first Right onto CHEVERLY AVE (near the big Cheverly sign).
Take fourth Left onto KILMER; follow to end; go Right on 63rd
St; take third Left onto JASON ST (at the church); I'm the first house on the left after the church complex.

Phone: 301-773-6149

DIRECTIONS II: Coming from NO VA
COMING FROM THE WEST
Get onto 395 N. Once you cross the bridge and are into DC proper
stay in the left hand lanes (do not exit at the "395, Senate")
and you will be on Pennsylvania Avenue. Your going to take it
until the interstate ends. Look for the big green sign saying "Anacostia Parkway next left"—and take that next left—which puts you on
local 295 north. Stay left and in about 4 miles it will become the
Balt/Wash Parkway. Take the very first exit: Cheverly/Rt. 202.
Turn right onto 202. Follow directions above.

RETURNING TO THE WEST
Get on to B/W parkway south from 202.. Keep going past the exit for
Pennsylvania (since it is only lets you go East at that
junction) and take exit 3B Howard Rd/Downtown. Turn
Right off the exit and follow traffic to the right again at flashing
light and then left onto multi-lane highway; you'll see signs for
395S shortly.
