FLATPICKING WORKSHOP:
An Intro to
Norman Blake's Style*, 1:00-3:15pm
Norman Blake is the Earl Scruggs of solo flatpicking—the guy who
split the stylistic atom and then communicated simple melodies in driving and syncopated new ways. Using the tune
Buffalo Gals, we'll look at how some cool left-hand positions, bursts of crosspicking and select mid-solo strums can set us squarely on the road to Blakeville.

Limited to 8 participants. For intermediate level players.
Includes tab hand-out. Capitol area location. $50 fee.
For registration/directions: orhay@aol.com (or 301-773-6149).

MANDOLIN DAY' at Fiddler's Green
Noon-2:00pm Workshop #1
CRACKING THE CODE: Visualizing the Neck Through Double-Stops
Implicit in the tuning of the mandolin is a 'map' of the fretboard that mandolinists rely on to play in any key. Using two string mini-chords (double-stops) and the tune Silent Night, this workshop will jump-start your understanding of this map
.

2:00-3:00pm Mandolin Tasting & Jam Session
Time to pick, chat and compare instruments.

3:00-5:00pm Workshop #2
'
THE BEAUTIFUL KENTUCKY WALTZ': 3/4 time,
Tremolo & Cool Chords
Bill Monroe's Kentucky Waltz is a wonderful tune with a
memorable melody and a unique chord structure. Learning
how to play it well (both rhythm and lead) will enhance
your sense of mandolin well-being.

Workshops geared to novice-intermediate players.
Limited to 10 particpants.
Include tab handouts.
$50/each. ($10 off if you sign up for both sessions.)
Non-video recording devices encouraged.
